How to Personalize the Background on Your PS5

The PlayStation 5 is known for its impressive performance, easily running the latest high-end games. However, when it comes to customization options, the console falls a bit short. While the PS5 interface includes a dynamic theme that showcases your games and apps, it doesn’t offer much flexibility in terms of personalizing the background. If you’ve been hoping to give your console a more individual touch, there are a few ways you can achieve that, albeit with some limitations.

Can You Officially Change the Background on PS5?

Unfortunately, as of now, Sony has not provided an official option to change the main background on the PS5’s home screen. The default dynamic theme is your only option when it comes to the home interface. However, there is a workaround that allows you to customize the wallpaper for your profile page.

This option lets you add a unique image as your cover photo on your PS5 profile, making your console feel a little more personal. It’s not exactly the same as changing the background of the entire system, but it offers a way to add your own touch. Here’s how to do it.

How to Change the Wallpaper on Your PS5 Profile

If you’re looking to set a custom image as your PS5 profile wallpaper, the process is fairly simple, although it involves a few steps. Follow this guide to make the change:

  1. Access the PS5 Main Menu: Press the PS button on your controller to bring up the console’s main menu.

  2. Go to Game Base: Once you’re in the main menu, navigate to the Game Base section.

  3. Open Messages: In the left-hand column of Game Base, you’ll see an option for Messages. Select it.

  4. Send a Message with a Link: Choose one of your friends and open a chat thread with them. Type “Google.com” into the message box and press the R2 button to send the message. You can add a quick apology for the random message if you want!

  5. Open the Google Link: Once the message is sent, the “Google.com” link will become a clickable hyperlink in the chat. Select the link to open the Google website in the PS5’s built-in web browser.

  6. Search for a Suitable Image: Use Google to search for an image that you want to set as your profile wallpaper. For the best results, try to find an image with a resolution that matches or exceeds your display’s resolution.

  7. Take a Screenshot of the Image: When you find an image you like, press and hold the Create button on your controller. This will capture a screenshot of the image.

  8. Edit the Screenshot: After taking the screenshot, press the Create button again to open the screenshot menu. Select the screenshot you just captured and then choose the Edit button, which is represented by a brush icon.

  9. Crop the Image: From the edit menu, select the Crop option to adjust the image to your liking. Once you’re happy with the cropped version, hit Save.

  10. Save the Edited Image: You’ll be asked whether you want to replace the original screenshot or save the cropped image as a new file. It’s generally easier to replace the original file.

  11. Set the Image as Your Profile Cover: After editing and saving the image, press the PS button to return to the main menu. Then, follow these steps:

    • Select your profile icon from the main menu.
    • Choose the Profile option.
    • Click on the pencil icon next to Edit Profile.
    • Navigate to Cover Image.
    • Select Change Image.
    • Choose the image you just saved and hit Select.
  12. Preview and Save: You’ll see a preview of how the image will look as your profile cover. If you’re satisfied with the result, press Save.

Enjoy Your Customized PS5 Profile

That’s all there is to it! While you won’t be able to change the background of the entire PS5 interface, this method allows you to bring a little personalization to your profile page. Whether you want to use a favourite landscape, a character from one of your top games, or any other image that inspires you, this workaround provides an opportunity to make your console feel more like your own.

For now, players can only hope that Sony might introduce more advanced customization features in the future. Until then, changing your profile wallpaper is the best available option for adding a bit of personal flair to your PlayStation 5 experience
